[Peace & War Story]Why Do We Need Peace?

[1st Peace & War Story] The Unwomanly Face of War – An Oral History of Women in World War II, written by Svetlana Alexievich

We’ve seen and read many “war-themed” movies, books, and stories. Sometimes we are touched by the romantic love stories of the main characters or family love stories during wars. A man sacrificing himself to protect his loved one and a mother who died to protect her child, these are very common touching scenes in many war-related contents. However, do you really think these are such dramatic and moving scenes?

1

This kind of scenes is “well wrapped-up war stories”!!! The heavy and dark theme of war is embellished with the love story in any war movie, beautifully or maybe lightly.

There is a book that adds weight to the idea of, “War is terrible, heavy, and never should happen”. It is called, ‘The Unwomanly Face of War – An Oral History of Women in World War II’, written by Svetlana Alexievich. This book insists that we should remember the war seriously and remember it as it was, not distort the truth.

The War is mostly recorded by the winner rather than in the position of the loser. Thus, a war is mostly represented as a general and even positive event by the victor.

“How far did human words
have alienated us from the truth.”

– from the book

After realizing the real face of a war, it is not only destroying humans but also the global village. Human beings have been at war for a long time and the war has evolved from small fights to the world wars such as World War II. We must remember that a small fire could become a huge fire and shatter the world.

The reality, however, is to force those who tried to tell the truth about what they saw and heard during the war, to remain silent. In the book, there are women in the silent cry.

Decades later, those who fought in World War II were still suffering from the terrible memory of the war, also female soldiers with male soldiers at that terrible scene.
This book tells us the story of the women soldiers.

According to a statement released by the Department of Public Relations “On the 15th, groups of youth and women will talk about the ethnic or regional conflicts that have been continuing until recently and discuss the legalization of peace necessary for harmony and reconciliation among nations. The host organization, HWPL, is proposing the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) as a resolution for establishing a legally binding law for peace that can fundamentally prevent war and conflict.”
“On the 16th, there will be a forum for interfaith dialogue to promote a network among Christian denominations to be one under the meaning of the scripture and the 2018 Addis Ababa Summit to strengthen a cooperative partnership for regional stability and peace by reaffirming the importance of the implementation of an international/internal law for peace.” the statement stated.

Over 15th to 16th days, HWPL had the time to sign for the support of DPCW with participants from all walks of life. DPCW was created by international law experts for building the peace world without the war. During the two-day peace tour, participants at each event pledged to support and urge the DPCW for sustainable peace.

The Chairman Lee ManHee of HWPL, who held the summit with Ethiopian leaders during the 29th Peace Tour, emphasized the importance of peace movement to work as one in which each stratum came together, saying “If there is an answer to peace, then any family of the global village born in this era should become a messenger of peace, ending war and making sustainable peace a legacy for future generations.

The DPCW deals with the international cooperation to institutionalize and culturally develop peace and cessation of war through the cooperation of world legal experts by HWPL. In this Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War covers the develop friendly relations between nations, prohibit the use of the forces, respect of the international law, foster religious freedom, and spread a culture of peace.

The Chairman of HWPL following a peace tour to the United Nations in May, said “We should also write a letter to the president to support the Implementation of international laws for the cessation of war. It says that the people have all the power of the state. That’s why the president has no reason to refuse what the people want.”. And the Chairman presented a role of civil society for peace and urged them to join peace activities.

Without Peace

Without peace, all other dreams vanished and are reduced to ashes. Jawaharlal Nehru

[peace quote] By understanding

Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by understanding.   So true.. and We all should try to understand each other.. Having a conversation, and most important part is forgiving each others.. 🙂

[Intro of peacemovement] Youth, teens walk for peace

IMG_2590

Youth and teens in Indianapolis came together to fight violence on Aug 11. The WE LIVE peace walk on Saturday was the second annual Peace Walk. It was in honor of Dijon Anderson, their classmate at Warren Central High School, who was killed in a shooting last spring. His friends didn’t want him to die in vain, so they started their anti-violence movement.

Brandon Warren who created to We LIVE said the walk is about raising awareness and showing that whether or not you are the shooter or the person being shot, both outcomes are tragic. “We want to persuade more teens to get involved and spread the word to other teens that they may be going down the wrong path and show them that there are other options.” Warren said.

The group walked about a mile from Washington Park to the juvenile center on the east side. That’s because they want to let the people there know that there are people who care about them. They prayed for the youth and the city, and families who have lost children and teens to gun violence.

Now We LIVE plans to expand to more cities, continue the annual Peace Walk and add other related events throughout the year.

One of the Best Song for Reminding Peace, “Imagine” by John Lennon

Imagine – John Lennon

Imagine there’s no heaven

It’s easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only sky

Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there’s no countries

It isn’t hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion too

Imagine all the people living life in peace, you

You may say I’m a dreamer

But I’m not the only one

I hope some day you’ll join us

And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you

You may say I’m a dreamer

But I’m not the only one

I hope some day you’ll join us

And the world will be as one

“Imagine” by John Lennon is the best-selling single within his whole career. It reminds us of peace in our busy daily lives. The song is about the world without any barrier or division of religions, but full of peace. It is difficult for us to think about the world peace deeply if we don’t have any experiences related to war or conflicts. By listening to this kind of song motivate us to think of peace actually, even just for short time, only 3~5 minutes.

What I really want you to know is that It is not difficult for us to think peace. Small actions can bring up us closer to peace!
